A good Victorian silver Vesta Case of rounded rectangular form with hinged flip-top lid and silver gilt interior, the face enameled with four maritime signal flags.
By Edmonds & Johnson, London 1890. Also stamped with a Registered Design number and the word "Errinerung". Also with the retailer's mark of J.H.Werner, Berlin.
"Errinerung"" is a German word meaning memento, remembrance or keepsake.
The four signal flags are for the letters; (D) Delta, (Q) Quebec, (N) November & (K) Kilo (taken from the Commercial Code of flags 1857-1900) and indicate the phrase - "I Will Remember".
