An unusual Victorian silver Vesta Case of rounded rectangular form with sprung hinged lid and attached suspension ring, the face enameled with a female clown wearing a green hat and a purple dress.

Possibly depicting Evetta Matthews (sometimes known as Evetta Williams) who was quite famous at the time, and was billed as; "The Only Lady Clown on Earth" (which was not strictly true, although female clowns were quite unusual) . She worked for the Barnum and Bailey Circus.
