Stamped with a design registration mark for 12th September 1873.
The design application for the Plumb Bob Pencil was made by Walter Thornhill of 144 New Bond Street in 1873.
This design registration mark appears on Pencils carrying either the Thornhill or Sampson Mordan's name on top of the cap, each pencil also carries a serial number. Although this was a popular design made in three different sizes it appears more frequently by Sampson Mordan than by Walter Thornhill. This pencil is numbered 1667.
