Victorian Novelty Silver Crucifix Propelling Pencil - Early Registered Design
Sampson Mordan c1843
Photo 1 of 10
A Victorian novelty silver sliding Propelling Pencil made in the form of a Crucifix, of hexagonal section with diamond shaped slider button and attached suspension ring.
Stamped: 'Mordan' (no S) and with a diamond registration mark for 1843.
The diamond shaped registration mark / system was only introduced in 1842, so this piece represents a very early registered design and would have been Sampson Mordan's first use of the crucifix pencil.
