A rare late Victorian combined silver Butt Marker and Vesta Case of rounded rectangular form with attached suspension ring and two sprung hinged lids, the first opening to reveal a vesta compartment with silver gilt interior, and the second housing eight numbered ivory pegs, also with gilded interior. A striker to the lid. The face engraved with a Barons Coronet above an initial 'H'. The reverse engraved from Assheton. Probably given by Sir Ralph Assheton to Baron Hotham.
