Photo 1 of 8

An extremely rare and early George II Provincial silver Wine Label of chased escutcheon form, decorated with vine leaves, grapes and tendrils on a matt background, a distinctively large tendril centre bottom resembling an elephants trunk, incised for WHITE-WINE. With unusual link chain. Engraved contemporary initials “C & A” to reverse. A very early Newcastle label that exhibits several distinguishable features apart from the unusual chasing. Note the wide plain border and the rounded horns.

By Robert Makepeace I of Newcastle (2nd Mark of 1738).
