Phipps & Robinson, London 1809
Photo 1 of 6
A very fine quality George III large and heavy cast silver Wine Label of "two putti with jug and bottle" form, depicting two naked boys, one holding a jug and bottle the other with a basket of grapes, both supporting a scroll shaped name panel pierced for Claret, a bearded Bacchus mask below.
The label of larger than average size and the putti with quiffed hair. The design was introduced by Phipps & Robinson in the early 19th century and later reproduced by others.
The makers mark obliterated by the piercing, but almost certainly by Phipps & Robinson, London, 1809.
