A fine Victorian silver and enamel Vesta Case of plain rectangular form with flat hinged flip-top lid, the face inset with signed sepia enamelled painting by Richard Caton Woodville 1899 - ""All that was left of Them"", depicting the Black Watch after the battle of Magersfontein during the Second Boer War.

Markers mark rubbed, but possibly that of George Heath, London, 1895. Signed: R Caton Woodville and engraved Copyright.

Richard Caton Woodville (7 January 1856 – 17 August 1927) was an English artist and illustrator, who is best known for being one of the most prolific and effective painters of battle scenes in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
