American Sterling Silver & Enamel 4 Compartment Stamp Roll Dispenser 'Airmail'
Abercrombie & Fitch, New York 1918
Photo 1 of 8
A very rare early 20th century American Sterling silver and enamel four compartment Stamp Roll Dispenser, the cylindrical body standing on two panel feet, the four section dispenser with silver gilt interior and enamelled above the four slits in blue and red for 2c, 3c, 6c and Via Airmail. This combination of rates was only in force between December 15th 1918 and June 30th 1919. So this box must have been one of the earliest to include a compartment for Airmail labels, the official US Airmail service having been inaugurated on May 15th 1918.
Stamped: Abercrombie & Fitch and Sterling.
